What determines a good education?

Posted on Nov 28th, 2007 by goodsoul : Most Comical Ambazzador goodsoul
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for November 28, 2007:

The typical educational environment consists of those who want to learn and those who hope to be taught. Those who want to learn concern themselves with the subject matter and rely on teachers to demonstrate only how they think, and learn from teachers only by the examples set and observation. Those who want to be taught rely on getting grades, regardless of what they might learn in the process.

So, what determines a good education? Someone who wants to learn.

Blezzings to all from the Most Comical Ambazzador,

This one is powerful and timely for me. It's not academics or book work, as you would say that makes for a good education. It's applicability in the real world that determines if education is 'good'. It's all about relevance. Has your education process given you the skills or tools to function effectively, to face the challenges of daily life, to make yourself viable and sustainable as you develop as a person? Most education systems don't do that, thus the ultimate merit of 'street smarts'. I am thankful to have immersed myself in the latter, following my previous immersion in the former (academics). Now I couldn't imagine life as an academic. My 'real world' education has been fantastic for me, to make me a well-rounded and effective human being. Have a great day all.
